Montana flumes are a modification of the popular parshall flume. They have a similar shape, but do not include the throat and discharge sections of the parshall flume. Fiberglass Montana flumes are used to measure sanitary/municipal sewage flows in instances with no submergence. Montana flumes come in various sizes and options, include multiple accessories and are used in several applications.

Montana Flume Sizes & Options

Montana flumes are a popular choice for wastewater management systems as they come in over 15 sizes. They are sized based on throat width and conform to standardized dimensions published in the U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Reclamation, and Water Measurement Manual. Each flume size is used for a specific recommended flow rate. The most common Montana flumes are 48-inches or shorter and are designed for the following flow rates:

  • 1” 2 – 85 GPM
  • 2” 3 – 210 GPM
  • 3” 3 – 834 GPM
  • 6” 22 – 1,754 GPM
  • 9” 40 – 3,979 GPM
  • 12” 146 – 7,336 GPM
  • 18” 227 – 11,021 GPM
